Hornets' area-round hoops set

Dodd City will play Midway on Friday at 6 p.m. at Gainesville High School in a Region III-1A boys' area-round basketball game.

The winner will advance to play in the regional quarterfinals on Monday or Tuesday, Feb. 27 or 28.

In bi-district play on Monday, undefeated District 23-1A champion Dodd City defeated Avinger, 77-46, while 22-1A runner-up Midway topped Bryson, 53-23.

Last season, Dodd City finished 30-8 overall, won its first district title since 2019 -- and made its first regional final appearance since 2012.

It took eventual champion Graford to stop the Hornets' historic 2022 run, 30-27, in the Region III-1A final.
