Honey Grove 7, Dodd City 4

Dodd City, Texas -- The Honey Grove Warriors moved to 9-1 in District 12-2A with a 7-4 win over the Dodd City Hornets.

After a scoreless first inning, the Warriors scored one run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Honey Grove added a run in the fourth frame and then stretched its lead to 7-0 in the top of the sixth.

Dodd City scored the final four runs of the contest, but the rally fell short, giving Honey Grove a three-run victory.

Brody Mahan struck out 18 and only gave up two hits to get the win. Nick Ottmo came on in relief with one out in the seventh inning and gave up three hits, but earned the save.

Mahan, Hudson Stroud and Kendal Wolfe all had two hits apiece for Honey Grove.

For Dodd City, Nick Glover had two hits, while Logan Lackey, Alex Helms, and Maddox Lappin each had one hit.

Lackey, Helms and Glover all finished with one RBI.

Ethan Barnard suffered the loss for the Hornets.

Dodd City (11-2, 8-2) will host Wolfe City on Tuesday, April 18 for a varsity-only 7:30 p.m. contest. On Friday, Dodd City will travel to Wolfe City for a 4:30 varsity game.

Honey Grove has a pair of games coming up with district-leading Sam Rayburn next week.
