Dodd City Hornets sweep Wolfe City

Dodd City, Texas -- In a doubleheader played Wednesday, the Dodd City Hornets defeated the Wolfe City Wolves in two competitive contests.

The Hornets took the opener in heroic fashion, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a 5-4 victory.

Hunter Haglund struck out eight and held Wolfe City to seven hits in a complete game to pick up the win.

Haglund and Layton Vaught both went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Haglund scored twice.

Alex Helms and Caysen Lappin had one hit apiece. Helms crossed home plate twice and Lappin scored once.

For Wolfe City, Casen Pessel, Carson Herron and Trey Jones all had two hits.

Pessel held Dodd City to five hits in six innings, but was tagged with the loss.

In game two, Dodd City jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and turned back a late rally by Wolfe City to earn a 5-3 win.

Layton Vaught went 2-for-2, scored once and drove in a run.

Ethan Barnard, Hunter Haglund and Nate Van Huss all had one hit apiece.

Gavin Shindler had one RBI.

Van Huss got the start and made the most of it, striking out 10 and limiting the Wolves to only three hits in seven innings of work.

Dodd City (12-3, 11-1) will travel to Ivanhoe on Tuesday, April 23 for a 6:30 contest. The Hornets will wrap up their district campaign Friday, April 26 on Senior Night when Dodd City hosts Sam Rayburn.
