Sanger, Texas -- Only eight Class A baseball programs are still in the chase for the state title after this round of playoffs and one of them is the Dodd City Hornets.

With starting pitcher Ethan Barnard racking up 15 strikeouts, Dodd City defeated Electra, 6-3, in the Region II-1A semifinals on Wednesday to advance to the regional finals.

Electra had a 1-0 lead after two innings before the Dodd City bats took over. The Hornets scored four runs in the top of the third and never gave up the lead.

Neither team managed to score in the fourth and fifth innings, but Dodd City stretched its advantage to 6-1 in the top of the sixth.

Electra plated a pair of runners in the bottom of the sixth and a scoreless seventh inning gave Dodd City a three-run victory in the regional semifinals.

Barnard scattered five hits in 6.1 innings on the mound to get the win. Hunter Haglund came on in relief in the seventh inning to get the save.

Haglund also drove in two runs and scored once. Nate Van Huss and Maddox Lappin had one RBI apiece.

Alex Helms, Layton Vaught and Gavin Shindler all had one hit.

Cash Crossland worked the Electra pitchers for a pair of walks.

The Hornets will take on the winner of Meridian/Abbott in the Region II-1A finals.
